What is Spiritual Direction?
Spiritual direction is the practice of listening for the presence and invitation of God in the events of everyday life. It is a sacred conversation where compassionate, prayerful listening creates space to notice Spirit in our lives. Rather than providing answers, spiritual direction helps us recognize God’s gentle invitations and respond with greater freedom, faithfulness, and love. Spiritual direction is experienced one on one with a Director and can be experienced in person and online via Zoom and other platforms.
When should I seek Spiritual Direction? (A few possible reasons)
- When you wish to deepen your relationship with God
- When you face difficult times of transition and grief
- When longing for a richer prayer life
- When seeking discernment around a complex situation
- When you wish to explore questions of purpose and meaning
- When you wish to cultivate greater awareness of the Sacred in everyday life
What is a Spiritual Director?
A spiritual director is a trained, prayerful listener who helps others notice, discern, and respond to the presence and invitations of God in everyday life. In spiritual direction, the true Director is God. The spiritual director is there to listen together with you, accompanying you on your unique spiritual journey.
What can I expect from Spiritual Direction?
Spiritual Direction can enable a person to focus on and to articulate her or his experience of God in the myriad and mysterious ways in which God is present.
The purpose of the first session is to explore the possibilities and desires regarding spiritual direction and is without cost or obligation.
During the first session, dates, time and cost for subsequent sessions can be discussed. Ability to pay is the guideline, usually between $40 and $60 per session with a sliding scale to $25.
