The 800th Jubilee of the Transitus of St. Francis of Assisi commemorates the 800th anniversary of his passing from earthly life to eternal life on October 3, 1226—a moment Franciscan tradition calls his Transitus, or “passing over.” Pope Leo XIV proclaimed a special Year of St. Francis, from January 10, 2026, through January 10, 2027, inviting the Church to rediscover Francis’ witness of Gospel living, peace, reconciliation, and joyful holiness.
