Franciscan Center supports The Sisters’ House in a food drive for Feeding Tampa Bay

On Saturday, August 22, the Franciscan Center supported our neighbors from The Sister’s House by serving as their drop-off point for a Feeding Tampa Bay food drive. Bright and early on Saturday, August 22, dozens of masked and gloved volunteers met cars full of donors with smiling eyes as they arrived to drop off their donations at the Franciscan Center.

Our friends from SpiritFM 90.5 joined us at the Center for a live broadcast from the event and spoke with Sister Cathy, The Sisters’ House (TSH) administrator, and Vice-Chair of the Franciscan Center Board. “Most of the morning was overcast, and a few sprinkles did nothing to dampen our spirits,” Cahill shared with SpiritFM, “The best part, after the fact that we are helping so many who need help, was seeing people face to face! What joy!”

Together, we are very grateful to have received so many donations, from places like the Center’s Riverside Heights neighbors who came by throughout the morning, and a couple who drove to us all the way from Palm Harbor. And Ann and Joe, with Light of Christ Catholic Church in Clearwater. Ann and Joe collected donations from their parish outreach ministry and dropped off several large boxes of food.

The food drive was a huge success. We paused for a moment in the middle of the morning to pray for all those who were giving food, all those who would handle the food, and each person who would be receiving it. By 1 pm, when all the donations were collected, trunks and back seats were packed and ready to head to Feeding Tampa Bay – with over a thousand pounds of food. And close to $600 in donations.

Thank you to the TSH committee, volunteer teams, staff, and volunteers of the Franciscan Center who helped and organized the food drive.

The Sisters’ House is a place for women to enhance their spiritual lives through relaxation, mentoring, programs and classes, spiritual guidance, and connection with other women on the journey.
