Franciscan Center

The Franciscan Center offers an environment of peace, simplicity and hospitality for all those seeking spiritual renewal. We welcome people from all faiths to come and find acceptance, peace and healing and to listen to God amidst the beauty of creation.

The Center is a private, non-profit retreat house staffed by the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, NY and dedicated laity who are assisted by loyal volunteers in carrying out their ministry. Throughout the year, various professional retreat directors assist the staff in offering group programs and private retreats. The Center also is available for groups wishing to host their retreat or meeting here.

VALENTINE’S EVENING: To Know You is to Love You

February 14, 6 - 9 pm

The greatest gift that couples can give each other is the gift of honest, intimate communication. We will (re)learn and practice speaking from our hearts, minds, and intentions and listening to each other with our whole selves.  Join us for prayer, a festive dinner, presentations and a chance to have a conversation that matters on Valentine’s Day in the serene atmosphere of the Franciscan Center.

THE AGAPE SINGERS: Songs of Joy and Hope

February 19, 4 pm

The Agape Singers are the high school age choir of University Presbyterian Church (Rochester Hills, MI). In addition to providing Sunday morning worship music, the members of this 30-voice choir regularly spend their school breaks on choir/mission tours, witnessing and sharing God’s love through song and service. The God’s Love on Tour 2012 will be a concert of sacred anthems and songs in many musical styles celebrating the gift of God's love in our lives. The afternoon includes refreshments.

LUNCH WITH PAM IORIO: Developing Your Inner Leader

February 28, 12 noon – 1:30 pm

During this special program, former Mayor of Tampa Pam Iorio will share the essential elements of straightforward leadership and the qualities that define exceptional leaders: honesty and humility, a positive attitude, a measured and thoughtful approach, the ability to admit mistakes and accept responsibility, competing without excuses, resiliency, showing respect for others, and the careful use of power.

Join Us for Monthly Sabbath Days to Renew Your Spirit:

Join us once a month, generally the fourth Thursday of each month (third Thursdays in November and December), for a special Sabbath Day of rest and renewal.

You may choose to spend all or a portion of the day in quiet reflection or participate in one of several groups meeting throughout the day, including Gentle Yoga, Women’s Spirituality Circle, and the Writing Circle.

Sabbath Day is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with optional Mass at 1:30 p.m. (please call to confirm). These days are the Franciscan Center’s gift to you, so we offer them without charge. Donations are accepted.

LENTEN RETREAT: Beginning Lent with Blessing

The Lenten Preface reminds us that the Lord “gives us this joyful season to prepare us to celebrate the Paschal Mystery with hearts and minds renewed.” The Pascal Mystery is the heart of our faith. This retreat day will incorporate the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist to celebrate our “Original Blessing” of being wondrously made in God’s image and likeness (Genesis 1 and Psalm 139).

UKRAINIAN EGG-DYEING: A Tradition of Easter

Come learn the Eastern European art of wax-resist egg dyeing (or pysanky in Polish) and take a new Easter tradition home with you. You will have the opportunity to make two to three eggs that are yours to keep, plus learn the spirituality of this art form, which has long been considered a form of prayer in many Eastern European countries and cultures. Each participant will receive a personal pysanky egg-dyeing kit, which includes egg dyes, bees’ wax and a stylus used for decorating the eggs.

Fee: $25 (includes pysanky kit)

HOLY WEEK RETREAT: Walking Together With Jesus from Death unto Life

April 4, 5 pm-April 7, 9 pm

The Holy Week Retreat invites us “to enter into the mystery,” the grace-ful moments of Jesus’ suffering, death, and resurrection. The Sacred Liturgies of Holy Week, including the Last Supper and the Washing of the Feet, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil, guide and celebrate these most sacred of moments. Join with other people on retreat to celebrate the Pascal Mystery in this very special way.
