Individual Spiritual Direction

Available for individuals who would like to meet periodically with a director in order to listen more attentively to God’s communication in his/her prayer and life experiences. A spiritual director can ask reflective questions, point out resources, and assist in breaking through spiritual roadblocks. Spiritual Direction is a ministry in the Church that has taken different forms over the past two-thousand years.  Since the Second Vatican Council, it has become a greatly sought-after and more specialized ministry worldwide.

The Focus…is the directees experience of God, and how communication occurs between the directee and God.

The Need…Many people seek spiritual direction when they are yearning for a deeper relationship with God.  Perhaps they have come to a crossroad, find prayer difficult, or are exploring new forms of prayer that may be more life giving.  Often people wish to have a companion to assist them on their spiritual journey by being present and listening.

The Expectation…You can expect the director (or spiritual companion) to listen carefully and pay close attention to the way God moves in your life. We believe that God is found in all things and is ever present. This reality enables us to find God’s invitations, urgings, and confirmations in our everyday lives. The director can ask reflective questions, point out resources, and assist in breaking through spiritual roadblocks and resistances.

The Frequency…The director and directee decide together how often they will meet. Usually it is about once a month, but sometimes can be more or less often.

The Director…Spiritual Directors have special training and a background in ministry, communication skills, personality dynamics and resources in scripture, spirituality and prayer.  Our director takes part in supervision to insure the quality of direction.

An offering in the range of $30—$60 is customary for spiritual direction. Ask about scholarships available in cases of financial need.

Group Spiritual Direction

For individuals interested in group spiritual direction we offer a seven day retreat in June. Please call or email the center.

Labyrinth

All are welcome to walk our labyrinth, located on the Franciscan Center grounds. A labyrinth prayer walk allows you to enter into prayer with your body while you think or pray about the things on your heart and in your mind.  Please check in with the front desk to let us know you are on property.
